OUR COVID RESPONSE

The closure of schools and businesses as well as social distancing has put many at risk in our community of losing their income and having nowhere to turn.  Fox Families Care (“FFC”) combined our efforts with the Fox Chapel School District, Second Harvest, Backpacks for Hunger, Sharpsburg Family Worship Center (“SFWC”), Youth Empowerment Project and Roots of Faith to help these individuals and families.

We coordinated with school staff who had an existing plan in place to feed students while schools are closed.  Each week we gave the staff a flyer to distribute to families that detailed the additional food resources available in the community.

FFC partnered with Second Harvest, Backpacks for Hunger, and SFWC to provide “Food for Friends”.   Volunteers from all four of the organizations distributed dinners every Tuesday night in Blawnox and every Wednesday night in Sharpsburg from March 25th until June.  We also provided meals weekly to the Blawnox and Sharpsburg senior towers.  Local restaurants were utilized to cook the meals and our volunteers distributed them.  In total, Food for Friends, provided the funds and volunteers to distribute over 5,600 meals to local people in need.

FFC also helped with a weekly food/grocery distribution in the Sharpsburg and Blawnox communities.  From March until June, we assisted in hauling the bulk food items from the warehouse to Roots of Faith (the food distribution site).  Our volunteers also assisted with packing the food bags and distributing them to people in need.

In the upcoming months, we will be working with many of these same organizations to provide backpacks and school supplies to kids who are hopefully returning to school in the fall.

FFC has only been a charity for 9 months and we are celebrating our recent approval for 501C3 tax status and our ability to help so many people in such a short amount of time.  In the upcoming months, we are looking forward to building on our partnerships with other charities so we can have an even greater impact on our community.
